ENERGY CONSERVATION
Let's check your Texas Energy IQ. You have a lot with a great western view of Lake Travis. You want your house to be energy efficient. You pick up a book printed in Massachusetts and you find that triple glazing is the best choice for your windows. WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? There are two factors involved in energy conscious window selection. One is more important than the other in Texas. The insulative characteristic refers to the transference of heat and cold due to a temperature differential. This is what double or triple glazing attempts to address. See the following section under Insulation. But the biggie in Texas is the shading coefficient - on eastern and western exposures the Texas sun can eat your lunch in July and August. See the following section under shading. The great thing about exterior rolling shutters is that you get separate and overlapping benefits from one product - yet with the convenience of operation from inside the home. Keep in mind that in regular double glazing, there is no shading benefit at all. This is a fact that you won't find in energy books printed up north, where the sun doesn't have the strength that it has in Texas. From experience, Texans know better.
